Our 'Greenprint' for the Future
The next five years will be critical to protecting the quality of our islands. Our three-year strategic plan focuses on accelerating our pace of land protection by:
| • |
Taking a strategic approach to land protection to ensure the greatest public benefit. Our Land Protection Plan guides which projects we undertake. The Plan identifies those projects that will protect the most critical natural resources based on scientific data and community input.
|
| • |
Providing ongoing stewardship of the lands we protect, through monitoring, restoration projects and landowner support and education. |
| • |
Increasing support for land protection through outreach and education to landowners and residents. A solid base of support for land protection increases our capacity to take on more projects and actively engage the community. |
| • |
Maintaining a strong professional staff and community-based volunteer board to provide organizational and community leadership. On a day-to-day basis, our experienced staff works for the community to complete land protection projects. |
PRIORITIZING LAND PROTECTION
An inventory of natural resources and other scientific data was compiled to create a multi-layered GIS (geographic information system) map. We use this map to help us identify and prioritize land protection opportunities.

| • |
Significant Ecological Value, including large acreages and corridors linking protected areas. |
| • |
Strong Support by community and members. |
| • |
Geographical Location within high priority areas. |
| • |
