Do you enjoy walking through Saratoga Woods, South Whidbey State Park, or Deception Pass State Park? Are you thankful you can enjoy scenic views along Livingston Bay and Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve? All these places include lands protected by the Whidbey Camano Land Trust, but they would not have been saved without the help of courageous individuals – our true conservation heroes.
As the Land Trust celebrates its 25th anniversary, it wants to know who YOU consider a conservation hero. By nominating individuals for one of six awards being offered by the Land Trust, you have an opportunity to help recognize the people who helped protect irreplaceable farmlands, forests, wildlife habitat, open space and scenic views. All you have to do is fill out the nomination forms and turn them in by August 1.
“We’re asking the community to tell us the conservation stories that made a real difference,” said Elizabeth Guss, Land Trust director of development and outreach. “We’ve created six award categories to publicly recognize the seen and unseen work of individuals and groups that resulted in land permanently protected in Island County over the past 25 years.”
The Land Trust will select the winners and make the awards at its 25th anniversary celebration in Coupeville October 3. Nomination forms may be downloaded from the Land Trust website, www.wclt.org, which also has complete descriptions of six award categories.
