Boose Conservation Easement
Status Protected in 2007
Location South Whidbey Island
Acreage 10 acres
Public Benefits
Wildlife habitat, intact forest community, aquifer recharge area
Description
This property is being protected solely for wildlife habitat, environmental and scenic values. With the popularity of Saratoga Woods for hikers, runners, and people walking their pets, the Booses’ property can provide a refuge for wildlife disturbed by human uses. The Boose property provides excellent habitat for deer, coyote, rabbit, squirrels, American Bald Eagle, hawks, herons, and Pileated, Hairy, and Downy Woodpeckers. The abundance and diversity of trees and shrubs provide ideal habitat.  Trees found on the property include white pine, Douglas fir, Western hemlock, alder, big leaf maple, and vine maple among others. The forest floor is rich in understory plants, which help reduce runoff from rainfall.
