Dan Matlock returned to the Board in 2026, having previously served from 2016-2021. He is a Professor Emeritus of Biology at Seattle University. Although he did his graduate work in cell biology, his research almost always involved marine organisms. In addition to cellular biology and genetics, he taught invertebrate zoology and marine biology, for which he established a scientific diving program. Dan has lived and worked in Brazil, Micronesia and Nicaragua. He first visited Whidbey as a child in 1952. Over the years, he has seen many changes to these islands and is happy to be part of the effort to preserve some of the things that first captured his interest many years ago.
