The conservation easement was donated to the Land Trust in 2021, motivated by the Ashworth family’s wish to protect the natural resources and scenic qualities of the land in perpetuity.  The property is directly adjacent to the Land Trust’s Fakkema Farm conservation easement (Beach View Farm) and Island County’s Swan Lake Preserve.  The Ashworth easement conserves 36 acres of agricultural land, wetlands and riparian habitat, including approximately 1,200 feet of Swan Lake frontage. Protection also permanently protects existing public wildlife viewing and nature appreciation from the Swan Lake Preserve and the Land Trust’s existing public trail network on Beach View Farm.  Additionally, a trail easement through the property that the landowner conveyed to the Land Trust in 2019 connects these larger protected areas together.
