Holmes Harbor Forest is currently 79 acres comprised of a diverse mixed conifer and deciduous forest with wetlands and seasonal streams. The preserve is situated within the Land Trust’s South Whidbey Forest Priority Area and in an identified wildlife corridor. The Holmes Harbor Forest provides vital wildlife habitat within this corridor and an assortment of climate resilience benefits and ecological functions including air and water quality protection, carbon sequestration and groundwater recharge.

The initial 79-acre property was purchased in October 2024 thanks to donations made by a handful of Land Trust supporters. The plan is to work with additional, willing, landowners, to expand Holmes Harbor Forest. The vision is 1,000 acres of protected forestland for the benefit of wildlife and humans, including providing ample recreational benefits through a public trail system. To achieve this vision, the Land Trust will be seeking grant funding as well as private donations. Look for more updates soon!
