Swantown

The Swantown Priority Area encompasses the lower reaches of a 3,793-acre watershed, and functions as an important filtration system for runoff originating in Oak Harbor. The area includes important prime and historic farmland, mature forests and freshwater streams draining into Swantown Lake and the Puget Sound.

The Swantown property was protected by the Land Trust in 2009 (is owned by Island County), and located within the Swantown Priority Area. With 40-acres of diverse, mature forest providing critical wildlife habitat on the outskirts of the City of Oak Harbor, this property is one of the last forested areas in this part of Whidbey Island. Not only does this unique property support a great blue heronry, it’s also home to raptors and other native wildlife.
