“I wanted to keep a piece of Whidbey as it was when my relatives settled here,” said Arletta Lynch Uptegrove on why she donated her 4-acre forest and sold a conservation easement on the other part of her family’s property that still holds her childhood home, the Lynch house. The conservation easement allows the family homesite to remain and protects the land around it for open space, wildlife and small-scale farming.
