Beautiful bird pictures have a way of brightening one’s day.

One of our Land Trust volunteers recognized that so he decided to share his photographs and knowledge of birds with others.

Albert Rose, a Greenbank artist, delights his email followers each day with a “Bird of the Day” image. Rose generally sends out the email early in the day. It often contains an image of a bird he photographed at a feeder that morning or at natural areas around Whidbey Island during recent outings. He includes the common name of the species and often adds other bits of information.

Rose began this routine in January 2018 as a way to lift the spirits of two friends suffering personal challenges in their lives.

“I started doing it as a way of sharing pleasantries with those in my life that were distressed,” Rose said.

Rose began sharing the daily images to more friends and family and his email list began to grow. He counted six on his list on January 22, 2018. By April 1, 2019, the list had grown to 153.

“I’m constantly reminded by people that they are delighted to see a happy bird greeting them in the morning,” Rose said.

In the meantime, enjoy a sampling of all kinds of birds that have landed in followers’ inboxes!
